This is a little farm on the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand's North Island. It is near Coromandel Town. What a lovely spot - lush grass, peaceful sheep - behind me was the Ocean. I longed to live there, but the next best thing was to capture it in paint.
Here is the first of what I hope will be a large series of New Zealand paintings. It is a depiction of a typical landscape in Otago, South Island. Sheep are all over the place there.
I grew up in Africa, and I am most interested in depicting African subject matter. I am a classically trained artist (translation: heavy on anatomy, perspective, and understanding value) working in encaustics, oil, watercolor, and various drawing media. I teach drawing and painting in Boulder, Colorado. I am committed to the "painting a day" habit because it is a no excuses road to "being" a painter. Painting all day all the time is now my lifestyle.
