Another nude

Life drawing again. Today I will be painting a portrait from life as a demonstration for the CAA art fair. It is both exhilirating and nerve wracking to work in front of an audience, especially when you only have 2 hours to finish a portrait.

Comments and links enabled

Technology is not one of my strengths, but I am slowly hacking my way through the twigs and branches and other obstacles to get a view of what it means to "be" on the net. I am very proud of myself today for figuring out how to enable comments and links. Comments anyone?
This is a studio painting done from a plein air sketch of Mary's Lake Road in Estes Park Colorado. Sold.

Meet the Artist Night

I had an opportunity to meet the public and hang a one-woman show at the Colorado Academy of Art Gallery tonight. It is the first time I have seen my new encaustic work hanging as a group, framed and appearing under nice gallery lighting. I had a nice time talking to new people about my art and my classes, and I am already looking ahead to my wildlife and landscape show later this spring. I am posting my painting of a horse head. It is oil on panel, and is available for purchase.

Society of Animal Artists Show

I have discovered a new place to study animal figures. It is called the Wildlife Experience, located in Parker Colorado. They have some very nice African lions, Leopards and Cheetahs, as well as a collection of Colorado large game animals.

The Society of Animal Artists show is in the main gallery until Feb. 18th, then there will be a show of work by Robert Bateman beginning March 1, 2008. I am especially looking forward to the upcomng show "The horse in fine art," opening June 7, 2008.

I have attached my silverpoint drawing of a couple of Dall sheep.

Drew at the Museum today

It was another snowy day in Colorado, so I headed off to the museum of natural history to draw animal skeletons. I drew a horse skeleton but I couldn't see it's feet, so I will have to finish it from books and memory. I also drew this pair of Mountain Goats.

Another horse.

When I went to the barn today there was a new pony in for training. He is a very cute little chestnut Welsh pony. He is terribly nippy, but our wonderful trainer will cure him of that soon. I decided to do another horse sketch.

Right, it's a horse not a lion

I didn't finish my lion muscle study today. Maybe tomorrow. In the meantime, here is a quick sketch of a horse.

More about Lions

I rather enjoyed drawing a lion yesterday, so in my obsessive-compulsive way I began to study lion anatomy. This is my drawing of a lion skeleton in front view. I plan to draw the lion's muscular structure tomorrow.
